Dr Bélanger is the scientific co-director of QNRIS. He is interested in nutrient cycles, foliar nutrition and the productivity of forests and fast-growing tree plantations. He was the principal investigator of a project on the valorization of fertilizing residual materials in poplar plantations and another on CO2 sequestration and carbon accounting in intensive cropping willow on short rotations. Nicolas Bélanger is currently working on a project on soil reconstruction and reforestation in a former asbestos mine in Chaudière-Appalaches.
Nelson Thiffault

Dr Thiffault is the scientific co-director of QNRIS and is interested in regeneration silviculture and management of forest vegetation. His research work particularly concerns reforestation, competition, ecophysiology, nutrition and the ecology of regenerating ecosystems. Within the Canadian Wood Fiber Center of the Canadian Forest Service, Nelson Thiffault leads a national research portfolio on the development of silviculture that restores, maintains and increases health, value and productivity. of forests under climate change.
