MISSION
The Québec Network for Reforestation and Intensive Silviculture – QNRIS is a knowledge transfer network. It contributes to the development of tree planting in the forest environment to increase forest, as well as for the development and maintenance of green infrastructure and the ecological restoration of disturbed or anthropized sites. The network relies on the expertise and collaboration of 20 researchers from 8 universities and 2 government research centers. QNRIS’s activities include numerous research projects and partnerships with industrial stakeholders and regional users. They are organized around seven complementary themes:
- Growth and yield of forest plantations;
- Ecological restoration of disturbed/anthropic sites;
- Resilience plantations;
- Phytoremediation and production of bio-based products;
- Genetic improvement and adaptation;
- Valorization of fertilizers from residual materials and carbon sequestration;
- Wood processing and the value chain;
OBJECTIVES
Specifically, the QNRIS has three strategic objectives:
- Research and development;
- knowledge transfer between researchers and partners;
- Networking and partnerships;
The QNRIS organizes an annual conference, seminars and webinars, workshops and trainings. It also uses other tools for knowledge transfer, including this Web site, which brings together relevant information on the experimental sites listed, as well as updates of activities, summaries of relevant scientific articles, project sheets, literature reviews, regional portraits, technical guides, information sheets, and articles in specialized journals and regional magazines. The QNRIS is also present on social networks.
Research and development
The QNRIS is :
- the scientific reference center for tree plantations in Quebec and Canada, and one of the most important in the world by mobilizing the most active researchers in the field and by sharing metadata on experimental sites and research results related to research fields;
- an integrative platform that provides access to metadata and research results to the largest number of users;
Knowledge transfer between researchers and partners
The QNRIS :
- fosters closer ties between researchers and industrial and government partners;
- transfers knowledge on tree plantating technologies in order to support potential users of these technologies;
- expands the network of demonstration plantations with the regions to provide information sharing services and field visits;
- develops communication tools to better identify the needs of regional partners, in conjunction with the government, in QNRIS’s areas of interest and to respond to these needs with the latest innovations;
Networking and partnership
The QNRIS :
- mobilizes partners by organizing transfer and networking events, as well as field tours;
- promotes the growth of small university research spin-offs in the network’s niches of activity in order to stimulate innovation, limit the exodus of highly qualified personnel and promote expertise internationally;
